Il Gossip

Italians love to talk. Italians like to be in the know.

And Italians in the restaurant & hospitality industry are no different.

Gelato: the quiet invasion
Those leading lights of the Italian iced-dessert industry, Bravo Gelato and Designer Gelato might have some added competition soon. There's talk that some seven new stylish gelaterias are opening around town.

One is already open — Gelatissimo in King Street, City — and proving very popular with city workers, and there's talk of expanding to the North Shore and Northern Beaches. Meanwhile, Gelato Messina at Darlinghurst is planning a possible northside outlet at Crows Nest plus a couple of Eastern/Southern beach locations. Sounds like the gelato business is hotting up.
( If that makes any sense. When you think about it.)

AC to turn off at current location.

That master of meat and Sydney icon, A. C. Butchery has apparently finally closed a much-rumoured sale of its Leichhardt location and considerable goodwill. Boss butcher, Carlo Coiaiacomo however declines to confirm this — or if the new owner investor may be Peter Holmes a Court from the seriously rich WA family.

Refined restaurant opportunity

Something quite different has come up for grabs in Sydney's ritzy Eastern Suburbs. Tenders are being called for to operate the Tearooms at oh-so-elegant Vaucluse House. Tender documents available from the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales; phone on 02 9232 3488.
